Pigeon Factfile (Columba livia) The humble pigeon is a familiar sight in our parks, towns and railway platforms adding a welcome splash of colour on an otherwise drab and dreary day. They become a problem however when their presence clashes with our own activities. We are often called to public buildings, food factories and railway stations to remove pigeons but always try to do so without harming them. They do […]

One of our Field Biologists was in London the other day, carrying out an inspection at a BRC food factory on the banks of the River Medway. He noted foxes and rabbits were active and then spotted a Soviet era submarine rusting on the river, overloked by rockester Castle. All in all, not a bad days work.

A raft of new legislation and guidelines has meant that our industry is now more than ever a specialist one, requiring specialist people with extensive knowledge of legislation, specifications and equipment. It should no longer be the case that the cheapest company gets the work and we need to recognize that for most organisations, cost is only a part of the overall decision making process. He pondered long and hard over my advice then decided to buy them from the internet for less than 20 quid a unit, saving over £800. Intrigued, I started searching […]

Pest control is changing. You will have noticed that the new version of BRC has arrived and the large retailers have made changes to their specifications and are becoming increasingly assertive. The result for you can be non- conformances, downgrades and even […]

When the weather starts getting colder and food gets a little more scarce, rodents abandon their outdoor habitats and start looking for food and warmth indoors. Both rats and mice carry a host of problems for us in our homes and businesses-problems such as disease, food contamination and for some of us, utter panic! The best way to deal with such a rodent problems is of course avoidance. If we […]

We have been working again this weekend proofing university buildings against pest birds, including pigeons. We tend to do these jobs on Saturdays and Sundays, to avoid blocking roads and pavements with our access equipment. This work usually involves fitting devices to buildings to prevent birds nesting and roosting on structures causing hygiene problems for the people that work in and around them. We can install netting, spike and wire […]
